LG brings twice the convenience with world's first dual door-in-door refrigerator

Expanding on the success of its Door-in-Door™ refrigerators, LG Electronics (LG) has announced the global release of its first Dual Door-in-Door™ refrigerator. The Dual Door-in-Door™ makes use of LG’s award-winning door-inside-refrigerator-door concept, doubling convenience over its single Door-in-Door™ counterparts. Powered by LG’s Inverter Linear Compressor, the refrigerator is energy efficient, runs quietly, and will be a durable, long-lasting addition to any kitchen.

sThe refrigerator’s Door-in-Door™ design reduces the amount of cold air that escapes by up to 47 percent. With the addition of a second independent Door-in-Door™ compartment, cold air loss is further reduced. This means that foods stored in the refrigerator’s door compartments remains fresh for longer periods of time. “Understanding consumer needs is at the forefront of our minds when we create new LG products,” said Hyunwoo Jung, General Manager, Home Appliances division, LG Electronics West Africa operations. “With so much positive feedback for our Door-in-Door™ feature, we felt it necessary to explore the full potential of the Door-in- Door™ concept. Now, with the Dual Door-in-Door™, users have even greater control over their refrigerator’s interior organization.” LG’s innovative Door-in-Door™ technology already makes it easier for users to reach frequently sought after food and beverage items.

By implementing two Door-in-Door™ compartments, LG’s new refrigerator doubles convenience and allows for greater food organization. The right Door-in-Door™ compartment is accessible from the outside with the simple push of a button allowing it to be used as a ‘family space’. This ingenious feature makes frequently-used items like snacks, drinks and lunches easily accessible for the whole family. The left Door-in-Door™ compartment can be opened by a handle at the bottom of the door and serves as a designated ‘cooking space’, ideal for storing essential cooking ingredients such as previously prepared vegetables, condiments and sauces. Accessible through both the Door-in-Door™ as well as the main door, the incredibly convenient Tilting Basket is also located within the ‘cooking space’ on the left side of the refrigerator.

Both Door-in-Door™ compartments are also equipped with Moving Baskets, enabling users to easily adjust the height of the internal compartments as they see fit. The Smart Storage System is a collection of features inside LG’s refrigerator that help users easily organize the items stored inside. Made up of the Door-in-Door’s™ Moving Baskets and Tilting Basket, this system allows users to store items into easily navigable customizable sections, improving organization and maximizing convenience.

The area at the bottom of the main compartment is inefficient dead space in most refrigerators. However, LG makes use of this dead space through its groundbreaking Extra Space™ compartment which opens up a new area in the refrigerator ideal for storing eggs as well as small food items such as cheese and sliced deli meats. Moreover, with the Folding and Sliding Shelves, storing food items of any shape or size has never been more convenient. LG’s comprehensive organization system also extends to the freezer section’s Easy Pull Drawer that is easy to open and can safely support heavy items.

The Dual Door-in-Door™ refrigerator comes in two expertly crafted designs ideal for any kitchen and home interior. The first features a contour processed, tempered glass outer finish that has been meticulously applied over a curved glass exterior. The alternative is a refrigerator with a diamond black stainless steel finish that is aesthetically pleasing and provides the exterior surface with fingerprint and smudge-resistance.

The Dual Door-in-Door™ utilizes LG’s revolutionary Inverter Linear Compressor, allowing it to consume 36 percent less energy and produce 25 percent less noise. Employing a linear piston drive instead of a conventional reciprocating drive, LG’s advanced Inverter Linear Compressor generates less internal friction than other compressor systems.

The reduction in friction results in lower energy requirements and noise production as well as greater reliability and durability for the compressor due to the reduction of friction points. The Inverter Linear Compressor creates an optimal temperature balance inside the refrigerator, helping extend the amount of time that food stays fresh. The reliable compressor is also backed by a 10-year warranty. Furthermore, in tests conducted by the German scientific and technical association, Verband der Elektrotechnik Elektronik Informationstechnik (VDE) the Inverter Linear Compressor was found to have an estimated lifespan of 20 years.

The upgraded Hygiene Fresh+™ air purification system employs multi-layered filters in addition to a proprietary fan to help sterilize and remove bacteria, viruses, mold spores and odors from the refrigerator’s interior. LG’s advanced purification system performs a highly effective five-step process. The double photocatalyst and UV LED are used help to eliminate 99.999 percent of bacteria while the double carbon deodorizers reduce the presence of acidic and alkaline odors given off by rotten vegetables and fish.

The filters implemented in Hygiene Fresh+™ have long lifespans, and don’t need to be replaced often, reducing costs and making life more convenient for the consumer. LG’s Dual Door-in-Door™ refrigerator was introduced at CES 2015, where it was greeted with rave reviews by industry insiders and journalists
