Father of British-born Oregon shooting gunman says he is 'as shocked as anyone'

The dad of British-born Oregon gunman Chris Harper Mercer (pictured above) has spoken of his disbelief after his son killed 10 people and injured seven in a US college gun rampage yesterday.

The killer burst into Umpqua Community College in Roseburg and opened fire. Eye-witnesses say he was asking victims their religion before shooting people who identified themselves as Christian.

The 26-year-old was later killed in a shootout with police.

Dad Ian Mercer told reporters outside his home he is 'as surprised as anyone' at the tragedy.
He said: "Obviously, it's been a devastating day. Devastating for me and my family.

"I'm just as shocked as everybody at what happened today. I've just been talking to the police and the FBI. That's all the details I have right now, is what you know already."

Police recovered four weapons at the scene, including three handguns and a long-range rifle, according to reports.

Tanzanian Mountain Guide completes Mt. Kilimanjaro climb in 11 hours, 8 minutes

Putting up a spirited fight to complete the climb, Julio became the second Tanzanian and African to make this attempt to climb and descend the highest Mountain in Africa in the shortest time on record.

According to Julio, “Despite not beating the world record, I believe I did my best and I hope that I have inspired other people to come and attempt the climb.”

But Julio was not the only one who triumphed in the Intel #TheClimbAfrica journey asAllan Thairo and Dennis MuriiIrungu were announced as the two winners in Nigeria with the most accurate predictions on how long it would take Julio to climb Mt. Oregon shooter may have revealed his plans on a website

The shooter, 20, who is dead according to Roseburg Police Sgt. Aaron Dunbar, appear to have revealed his plans on Wednesday night in posts on the website 4chan. He wrote;

"Some of you guys are alright. Don't go to school tomorrow if you are in the northwest," one post reads. "happening thread will be posted tomorrow morning...so long space robots" Another message is addressed to "fellow robots" and wishes readers "an enjoyable Elliot Rodger day," referencing the man who killed six people near the Santa Barbara University campus last year. "Personally I will mark this day's celebration of our Hero's deeds by announcing that I have an elaborate plan...Needless to say; it shall be glorious. The horrible kind of normies will pay for their misdeeds, and the world will be bettered." another read.

According to media reports, the couple, 33 and 59, who are currently in Paris, are planning to marry on the season finale of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Sources tell Radar Online

Woman who dreamed about being blind had drain cleaner poured in her eyes...now she's happy!

This woman had always wanted to be blind, and a sympathetic psychologist made that dream come true by pouring drain cleaner in her eyes. Jewel Shuping, from North Carolina, had thoughts of being blind from a young age (left and right). The 30-year-old was diagnosed with Body Integrity Identity Disorder, where able-bodied people believe they are meant to be disabled. She fulfilled her wishes when she arranged for a sympathetic psychologist to pour drain cleaner into her eyes. 

 Medics battled to save her eyes - against her wishes - but the corrosive substance melted her eyes and within six months she was blind. She said she can understand why people might be angry about someone giving themselves a disability but says it wasn't a choice but a need, based on a disorder of the brain. 

Telling her shocking story, Ms Shuping said her fascination with blindness began early in childhood.

My mother would find me walking in the halls at night, when I was three or four years old,' she said. 'By the time I was six I remember that thinking about being blind made me feel comfortable. I was 'blind-simming', which is pretending to be blind, but the idea kept coming up in my head and by the time I was 21 it was a non-stop alarm that was going off,' she said.

Determined to turn her dream into a reality, Ms Shuping found a psychologist willing to help her become blind and took the necessary steps in 2006.

"When I woke up the following day I was joyful, until I turned on to my back and opened my eyes - I was so enraged when I saw the TV screen.'
